v9.0 is a major breakthrough in many cases.

>> Introducing a new era of ROMs
Darky's ROM v9.0 is here.
I worked together with some very creative minds - let me present you Hristo "Ficeto" Gochkov, Andrea "DarkMan" D'Alessandro and Marco "Markoid" Barbera.

Ficeto is responsible for the new Script Engine since v9.0.
DarkMan & Markoid coded the DarkyROM Configurator in the Market.
DarkMan is also the new hoster for www.darkyrom.com - Thanks for this!

So, before you start saying "Thanks darkyy", thank these awesome men.

General Note
Besides the usual bugfixes [we fixed almost every known bug] and new features [a lot of new ones, every single one is tested several times!], Ficeto created a whole new Script Engine, which allows you to customize the ROM before it gets flashed. Read below for the explaination & documentation.

Completely New Script Engine [by Ficeto]
The most important and cool part about this new script is that you need to download a single file and chose the way you want it installed and which applications you want included. Surely this will lead to many more goodies, which will include multi-device support, more kernel choices, more modem, themes and anything else you can think of. It’s a kitchen in a ROM :)

How to customize the ROM before flashing
First, open the Market and download the DarkyROM Configurator App. Open the App and select the packages you want installed. If you are currently on Darky’s ROM and you are wondering if you should wipe your phone, now it’s a good time :)
>> v9.0 will clear any problems you might have left from 8.x or earlier.
If you are already on Darky’s and you remove apps through options before a no-wipe flash, apps that are not in /system (fonts and third-party) will not be deleted.

READ THIS - WIPE / NO-WIPE

The ROM itself will decide if it will wipe or not.

>> If you are NOT on Darky’s ROM, your data WILL BE WIPED, no matter what!
>> If you ARE on Darky’s ROM, your data will NOT be wiped, unless you tick 'Wipe' in the Darky App.
>> If you do NOT use any of the options bellow, ALL applications will be installed (just like the ROMs before)

You don't have to use the Darky App to install the ROM. It's optional.

How Sneaky Bastard Thieves Steal Laptops

Watch this cunning scoundrel using his feet to move that bag until it's near enough to steal the laptop inside. Also, notice the sucker not paying attention. Next time you're in a public place, don't be that sucker: Watch your stuff.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S Modem Information

SAMSUNG GALAXY S Modem Information:
taken from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945

This is based on user Reports/feedback. I would be grateful if you could PM me any information regarding Modems, so that it could be added here and be beneficial to EVERYONE. Thanks

Based on GPS Info - Lock Speed and Accuracy
Based on Call Quality - Incoming and Outgoing
Based on Network (H,3G,2G) Speed and Connectivity
Based on Effect on Battery Life
Based on Carrier/Network/Country/Region

Based on User Reports
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Personal analysis : It seems that the the top rated modems are the ones released in built up areas/countries/regions, and i designed to use more battery to give the best results especially when it comes to GPS Lock & Accuracy, Network, Speeds & Coverage. This does make sense, so if your in a built up area and use a modem designed for a less built up area which requires less power your not going to achieve goods results on paper, but if you use a modem designed for a built up area in a area that requires less, then your results are going to be sky high BUT might be to high and in turn drains more battery power than needed. So yes Modem's are clever little things, you have to find the right balance for your area, network, coverage, GPS and so on.

JPP is considered the TOP modem preference (See points below) BUT its uses alot of power to get those results.

Another thing to consider is : enabling 2G only which reduces battery consumption. H and 3G require more power.

USER INFORMATION POSTS TO BE ADDED:

=============

-JPP modem seems to be ok with this setup, what suprised me that speedtest results are better now than with JPP ages ago, and the same what I got with JPU modem (doc rom evolution is faaast...)
Now I got 5908/1324 kbit/sec d/u, under JPA it was 2951/694 at the same circumstances (I would 'blame' the provider...i think they made some improvement on the 3g service. I don't think that modem- rom change can cause such an improvement)
There's no problem with sound quality, GPS locks not so fast than with JPU, but acceptable. Accuracy 10m, locks 7-8 sats, tts 10 sec. I think average results, but seems better as well, than under the JPA rom...basicly the speedmod kernel's gps improvement settings can be responsible.
I can confirm that the overall loudness is reduced in the JPU modem: now with JPP it's noticable

=============

In short .... Data connections not working properly....

They are set up correct .... But sometimes the phone doesnt use them .... It a bit random ...
Every few minutes the data does not work, but it recovers and continues the connection ....

This is with 2.2 modems on the 2.2.1 jpu.
Data on jpu works flawless
==============

Re Modem: I'm using ZSJPE since yesterday (in combination with k10h) and I can say that reception here in CH is good as well as keeping (data) connections. Cannot say anything about data speed as I don't care about that. Call quality is unchanged, I never had problems there, regardless which modem I used (tried JPP, JPD, JP5 and many others). Drain during standby seems to be higher than with JPP but I need to further monitor that.

=============

I've been using 3 different modems for the past 9 days and id thought id share the results with you..

My setup is docs jpo v9 with k10i kernel at 500hz. My carrier is Vodafone (india) and do not use 3g .
I used each modem for 3 days to eliminate chances of any error. The modems I used were jpp jpe and jp5.

Im also using superpower app to try and maintain uniformity throughout the tests. I also used juice plotter to monitor battery graphs.

Jpp : it according to me performed the best overall but not by too much. Calls were crisp and no sudden signal drops. Even in areas of low coverage (1-2bars) calls went through without a hitch. Although 2g speed seemed to slow down in those areas which is understandable.
Regarding battery use I found out that the idle drain time would range between 2-3 % per 8 hours which is decent enough. By idle I mean no 2g or wifi running. I also noticed quite significant drain when using 2g or wifi as compared to the other 2 modems. Roughly 5% more per half hour of data usage (be it wifi or 2g)

Eventually I managed to squeeze 25 hours out of the modem on an average which is very decent but a lot of credit should go to superpower which does an amazing job of conserving battery.

Jpe : in contrast to what you had mentioned in the modem post I found that the idle drainage was much more that jpp or jp5. I initially attributed it to some app but after 3 days of similar results I was sure it wasn't any app. It would drain roughly 6-7% for 8 hours of idle time. (Same constraints as above). However that being said it consumed much less than jpp when actually using the phone with 2g or wifi enabled. Weird indeed.
My signal reception was a tad lower than jpp but never missed or dropped any call. Call quality was as good as jpp.

Jp5: for me where this modem really shined was in the battery department. OUTSTANDING. I achieved close to 32 hrs per charge on an average. The idle drain time was at max ,1% for a period of 8 hours. Even during actual 2g or wifi usage the battery fell at slower level as compared to jpp and jpe.
Call quality was decent but I did get a couple of failed texts when I tried to send them in areas with low coverage. Calls went through without a hitch though.

Well that's about it. I could not test on road gps performance for all 3 as i didnt have the time but the locks for all 3 were about the same. Jpp having the edge.

I know many of these points have been mentioned before but I thought of letting you know anyway so you can get some confirmation.
